Terms of Service
Last updated: September 1, 2026
Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Otterbond ("the Service," "we," "us"), operated by Miguel Furtado, an individual based in Portugal. The Service includes both the web app and the companion mobile app, which share the same account and backend. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
What the Service is
Otterbond is a personal budgeting and expense-tracking tool: you record budgets, expenses, recurring bills, and savings, optionally shared with people you invite into a workspace. It is a record-keeping tool, not financial, tax, or investment advice. Any decision you make based on what you enter or see in the app is your own responsibility.
Your account
You need a valid email address to create an account, and you're responsible for keeping access to it secure. Anyone who can complete the login flow for your email can access your account. The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 16; you must be at least 16 years old to use it.
The accuracy of anything you enter (amounts, categories, dates) is entirely up to you. We don't verify it against any external source.
Your content
You own the data you enter into the Service. We don't claim any ownership over it, and we don't use it for anything beyond providing the Service to you (see our Privacy Policy). You grant us the limited right to store and process it solely so the Service can work: displaying it back to you, syncing it across your devices, and sharing it with anyone you explicitly invite into a workspace.
If you invite someone into a shared workspace, an Editor or Owner role gives them full read/write access to everything in that workspace, and a Viewer role gives read-only access. Think about who you share a workspace with accordingly.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
use the Service for anything illegal; attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, workspace, or part of the Service that isn't yours; interfere with, overload, or abuse the Service's infrastructure or API; reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract the Service's source code beyond what's already public; or impersonate any person or entity.
Fees
The Service is currently free to use, with no paid tier. If that changes in the future, we'll update these Terms first and give you a clear choice before anything you rely on becomes paid.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account → Delete my account. This permanently and immediately erases your account and all associated data, and cannot be undone.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, including the acceptable-use rules above. Where reasonably possible, we'll try to give you notice first.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and we don't warrant the accuracy of any calculation, total, or figure it displays.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including any financial decision made based on data stored in it. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute not otherwise resolved will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Portugal.
Changes to these Terms
If we make material changes to these Terms, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you directly.
